Iceland in a nutshell by superjeep & Ice cave (9 AM/ 8,5h)

This is a tour of contrasts, and isn’t called Iceland in a nutshell without reason!

We leave Reykjavik behind in our jeep and head for the UNESCO world heritage site Thingvellir, where the world’s first parliament met and the continental plates of Europe and North America meet. From there we follow one of Iceland’s highest mountain roads called Kaldidalur (the cold valley) to reach the glacier Langjökull. Our next stop is the historical lave cave Surtshellir, which in the past used to house the outlaws of Iceland.

From there we drive to the waterfall Hraunfossar, which falls into a lake in the green lava field below. Further we visit the historical spot Reykholt, where the chief and famous author Snorre Sturlason wrote his famous sagas. The drive continues onto the most powerful geothermic spring in Europe, historically important for Reykjavík and Deildartunguhve. Before we return to Reykjavík we visit one of Iceland’s best-known microbreweries, Steðji, and on our way back to Reykjavík we drive by the beautiful fjord of Hvalfjördur, where the contrasting scenery is amazing. This day trip is not called ”Iceland in a nutshell” without reason, as it encapsulates the contrasting scenery of Iceland in one trip. In the winter variations may be possible, like walking on the glacier Langjökull to a little village called Borgarnes and then through the underground tunnel in Hvalfjördur instead of driving through Kaldidalur and Thingvellir.

Included: Super jeep tour with English guiding. Pick-up from your hotel in Reykjavík. Visit to brewery.
Duration: 8-9 hours
Period: All year, daily.
Pick-up at 8.30- 9 AM).
Other info: Warm clothing is recommended.

During winter this trip can be varied slightly by walking on the glacier via a small settlement in Borgarnes and through the underground tunnel in the Hvalfjördur fjord instead of driving through Kaldidalur and Thingvellir.
